Základná Škola s materskou školou Fintice is a pre-school and a primary school located in the beautiful village of Fintice in Prešov surroundings. The village of Fintice provides a wide range of historical sights such as a Castle and a Church. The village of Fintice is 10 km from the third biggest city of Slovakia - Presov / about 96 000 inh. / But our country especially our area is struggling with unemployment, there is no factories with new opportunities and our country needs to try to find some solutions. It widely affects our families, their life and the children ´s future and their perspective.
Our school consists of 10 for subdivided into 9 grades. Altogether 238 pupils are attending the classes at the age from 3 to 15 years old. The internal staff consists of 23 teachers and 7 technical staff. We have some pupils from different social classes and some students with special needs and we focus our work on to help them to integrate in our society as well as to create a very nice and warm atmosphere. Lots of parents work abroad because in our area, unfortunately, the rate of unemployment is quite high and is still increasing. Many families are divorced or children live with only grandparents or in a single parent family.  Some parents are not able to spend time with their children – they spend too much time at work. Furthermore, the pupils have little or no opportunities to socialize and interact with children their own age and travel too. That´s why some of students have lost their interest in learning, they have low ambitions and they run of risk of no developing themselves. The school takes on an important role for supporting the pupils and their families in various ways to involve them into the different activities, encourage them in getting knowledge an active life and to show them the right and optimistic way of life.

     Our school is 50 years old and had a lot of experience. Moreover, it cooperates with other institutions.  Our teachers are very enthusiastic, active and good IT specialists. Our children can play and attend, for example: basketball, football, florball, dancing, computers studies and others. Our pupils can attend and dance in our nice folk school ensemble called Pantlička / ribbon/ and we all are very proud of it. Many parents and other authorities organise a lot of activities and competitions for children to show them meaningful, interesting and active life.


     Our staff is enthusiastic, willing to obtain new skills and knowledge. Our teachers are very skilled in IT technology, key persons have lots of information and experience with previous projects, they are used to work in a team and with children. We have a nice support from our municipality as well.


     The pride of the school is the newbuilt building with the modern classrooms such as language lab, IT classroom and gym. Besides the regular education process the school focuses on sports development, language teaching, and informatics. Moreover, it cooperates with other institutions. 


     Our school has been running for these projects. The most relevant are:


• Comenius project – as a partner – in 2005-2008  and 2012-2014


• Healthy school – we are the school supporting good health. We practice activities which contributes to the acquisition healthy life style, to meaningful leisure, to removing mental overload.


• Green school – in this educational programme we focused on pupils in school to encourage them to change themselves and their surroundings. The activities support cooperation, a mindset change, creative and critical thinking and create warm and friendly atmosphere.


• Open school - in which students, teachers and parents create an open community.


• Comprehensive of prevention  system counseling in school – national project- which helps pupils to make the right choose in a difficult and trouble situations, to make a right choose in their career future

With this project our pupils and teachers had the possibility to know new European cultures, and new ways of teaching, to know uses, customs, and traditions, to learn foreign languages, to improve the quality of the education, to use the computer and to correspond with children of the European countries.
